Caralli Residence | Residential | Del Mar, CA
The client requested that the remodel of their home improve the indoor/outdoor connection while taking better advantage of the property’s hilltop perch and views of the Pacific Ocean beyond.
The goal of this project was to transform and update a nondescript 1980s ranch home that carelessly had no connection to either the front or rear yards. The client’s specifically wanted the redesign of the home to improve the curb appeal and to take better advantage of the property’s hilltop perch and views of the Pacific Ocean beyond.
The solution was straightforward, but bold, adding a new second story that floods the home with natural light and ventilation. San Diego’s coastal views and deliciously mild climate are world famous therefore, connecting the inside with the outside was the no-brainer strategy, which was accomplished with big expanses of glass and several roof decks. Wrapping the facade with a palate of naturally warm materials and colors dramatically improved the overall aesthetic of the home. The second major move was to connect the living level to the large rear yard using large sliding glass doors and a partially covered outdoor ‘living room’ space. The result, a private but very open home perfect for the clients’ desired casual lifestyle.
